Okunoshima (Rabbit Island)

This past weekend, we took a day trip to Okunoshima--also known as "Rabbit Island".  This island has a dark, sad past.  During various wars is Japan's past, it was used as a manufacturing plant for poisonous gas.  There were evidences of it all over the island.  In this post, we will focus on the fun part of the place--the bunnies!  After an hour-and-a-half drive on the Sanyo, we jumped on a ferry bound for Okunoshima.

Once we arrived, we boarded a bus that took us to the other side of the island.  While on the bus trip, we were bombarded with emergency alerts for another aftershock from the earthquakes going on down in Kumamoto.  It was bizarre to see so many people all getting the same message on their cell phones.  Once we got off the bus, we got to see all of the bunnies.

We were all a little shy at first, but warmed up right away.

When it was time to eat lunch, Ken spied the perfect spot!  It was a gazebo on top of the mountain overlooking the ocean.

We ate lunch and fed more bunnies.

Even Miss P got in on the action.

Great day.  Great way to end a fabulous spring break (where we did a lot but took no other pictures)!
