Next week, I get to go hike Mount Fuji! I'm super excited and have been training for several months. Two weeks after I started training, I sprained my ankle. Ken (being the sweet, protective husband that he is) insisted that I do Mount Timpanogos with him before I do Fuji. I've had back issues since we did Mount Elbert, and before he sends me off with a group of girls, he wanted to feel confident that I could do it without too much pain. So...we did it! Ken's folks watched our babies and we hiked.
We had an interesting experience on the hike. When we started hiking, we were stuck behind this huge group that looked to be on a family reunion hike or something like that. They had a bunch of kids with them and were slow hikers. Since our babies were with their grandparents for the first time in years, we were trying to hurry (as much as you can on a 15 mile hike!). We got so focused on getting around this huge group, we ended up on a completely wrong trail. It probably added 30-45 minutes onto the already lengthy hike. It was a good lesson. It is very important that when we are trying to reach our goals, that we stay focused on the right things. It does us no good to hurry to the wrong spot.
The hike was super fun and being with Ken for a whole day (sans kids) was amazing! My body handled the hike like a champ and Ken gave me his blessing to hike Fuji! ;)
